Parent Testimonial

As a very fond grandmother, I would like to express my appreciation to all of the personnel at our school site. How can I begin to express our thanks for the dedication, patience, as well as the pride and professionalism that is demonstrated by all the staff members. We have enjoyed the interaction between all the folks that have come and gone in the last five years. Katie and her family have thoroughly enjoyed all of them, and will be very sorry to be leaving the Phoenix Program.

There will always be a very special place in our hearts for every one of your school staff members.

Private Kindergarten

(5 - 6 years old)

Kindergarten is an exciting time for parents and children alike.  The students are embarking on an educational journey that will continue through their high school years.  Our intent and desire is to give our students a strong foundation intellectually, socially and emotionally.

The Kindergarten curriculum is a continuation of our Preschool programs.  Our curriculum, with major emphasis on the 3 E's: Exposure, Enrichment and Exploration, is designed to provide a developmental program based on a sequence of skills. Strong emphasis is placed on reading, writing, spelling, and math.  Students practice penmanship and have many opportunities to enjoy several types of literature. They are also exposed to advanced concepts in science and social studies which are integrated throughout the curriculum.

The Phoenix Schools Teachers use their experience and training to ensure that each child’s day is balanced with creative activities that help to develop thinking, reasoning, problem-solving and decision-making skills.   Kindergarten is a full day program that focuses on teacher directed subjects such as reading, spelling, math and writing in the morning.  The afternoon is filled with more “hands-on” learning experiences in science and social studies as well as our enrichment programs of art, physical education, foreign language and computers.

Zoo Phonics® will continue to be the foundation of the reading program in the first few months of the year. Initially, reading instruction relies on the teaching of sounds and the blending of sounds into words.  We systematically teach letter recognition and phonemic awareness during the introduction of sound/spelling association. By the end of kindergarten the majority of our students have become fluent readers.

Your child will be introduced to the "LIFE SKILLS" and The Phoenix High Five programs to help in the development of a positive self esteem, manners, independence and responsibility. The purpose of the “LIFESKILLS” program is to provide parameters that help students evaluate their own performance – to guide them, individually and in groups, to an understanding of which social behaviors will enhance their success.   We believe that the “LIFESKILLS” program teaches cooperation between the teacher and their students, and among the students themselves regarding, behavior and expectations (social and academic).

Your child will be given the time and attention required to provide a solid foundation for a lifetime of continued learning.  Many of our Kindergarten graduates continue their educational journey at our private elementary schools at The Phoenix Schools Rocklin and Folsom campuses.  For more information about our Private Elementary and Middle School programs, please visit: The Phoenix Schools Elementary and Middle Schools.
